Why I’m Writing a Book About Being a Suicide Loss Survivor

When I lost my wife to suicide, my entire world shattered.
There’s no roadmap for navigating that kind of grief. No manual for how to wake up the next morning. How to breathe through the ache. How to survive when your heart feels like it’s been torn from your chest. There's nothing. There's survival which it literally the only thing getting you through minute by minute.
In the days, weeks, and months that followed, I was drowning in silence. Not just mine, but the silence of a society that still struggles to talk about suicide, mental health, and the messy, complicated reality of what it means to be left behind. The shame, the embarrassment. At some point I needed to share my story. And I did.
Because I know I’m not the only one. I am not alone and neither are you.
This book is for the ones still standing.
For every person who has lost someone to suicide and wondered if they would ever feel whole again.
For those who feel broken, guilty, angry, or numb. And for those who feel everything all at once.
For the people who carry their grief quietly, showing up for life even when their soul is still mourning.
This book is my way of saying: You are not alone.
From Loss to Light
My book, From Loss to Light: A Suicide Survivor’s Journey to Healing and Purpose, isn’t just a memoir. It’s a love letter to ourselves that we lost and to the ones we’re still becoming.
It’s the story of how I moved from unimaginable heartbreak into a life fueled by meaning and mission. It’s about how I took my grief and turned it into a movement through my company Choose to L;VE, through advocacy, through storytelling, and now, through these pages.
But this book isn’t just about me. It’s about all of us. Our capacity to rise. To rebuild. To love again.
Why Now?
Because suicide is still misunderstood.
Because survivors are often overlooked.
Because mental health deserves more than one month of awareness.
Because we need to talk about this, not in whispers, but in bold, unapologetic truth.
I want to break the stigma. I want to bring light into the darkest corners. And I want to do that not just with data and statistics but with heart. With story. With raw, unfiltered honesty.
What You’ll Find in These Pages
You’ll find pain, yes, but also resilience. You’ll find memories and moments, both heartbreaking and beautiful. You’ll find tools for healing. And maybe, you’ll find a part of your own story reflected in mine.
Whether you’ve experienced loss, love someone who struggles with their mental health, or simply want to understand grief in a deeper way, this book was written with you in mind.
My Hope
My deepest hope is that someone, somewhere, will pick up this book and feel less alone. That it will be the hand on your back when you’re struggling to stand. That it will be the reminder that even in the depths of despair, there is still light to be found. There is still purpose. There is still life. And you are so worthy of living it.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for bearing witness. And thank you for choosing to L;VE.
